Macs Suck

Written by Katie Kish in Blogs, Feminism

I’m on a Mac - but that’s not what I wanted to announce. I wanted to direct everyone to this post at Appletree - not because of the post, but because of the first comment where Gordo eats the posts and says almost everything I’ve been saying about the feministing girls for ages. What do they do, really? A lot online. …But not much else. Which is dissapointing, because they have such power to be able to do a lot - but they don’t do anything. For shame.

I have a class, I will rant more on this and my cultural geography class later - but I would like to boast that I just did a kick ass radio show. Once I get it up online I will post it for everyone to listen to - because it was good shit. Mostly because of the other girls I had on helping! Woow!

dove soap

I just got home, curled into my pjs, got some hot tea and cranked up the heat… nice and cozy. I then went to check my e-mail and found this link to the top “nerd crushes” but that’s not what disturbed me. What really got me was the “Hottest Hollywood GILFs” …

What is a GILF, you ask? A grandma I’d like to fuck.

Honestly - I find maxim’s lists to be disgusting all around. They’re objectifications of women and give no thought to talent or anything. They perpetuate stereotypes and normalize the action of drooling over unsuspecting women. …But GILFs?? I find that to be a whole other level of wrong. I guess grandma’s need lovin’ too - but the fact that they call them “GILFs” is dirty… and “these old ladies have still got it”?? See above rant on objectification.

I think a much more appropriate way of showing out love and respect for older women can be shown with the Dove pro age campaign. Very cute.

I thought that banning gay marriage was bad - but banning homosexuality all together? Wow.

The Nigerian House of Representatives held public hearings last week on a bill that would criminalize all expressions and forms of homosexuality in Nigeria.

Luckily the UN is the tiniest bit put together and they’re calling it a violation of human rights - which it indisputably is.

Voicing serious concern over a proposed Nigerian bill which would effectively outlaw same-sex relationships, four independent United Nations experts have said it would violate international human rights norms, and urged the Government to withdraw it immediately.

So crazy! I’d elaborate, but right now there is music pounding, bosses yelling, a debate going on and someone calling my name. …I am definitely going home early!

But really - damn right it’s a violation of human rights, but so is not allowing people in love to get married.

New Music: Whoa

Written by Katie Kish in MP3, Music

dying fetus

If you want loud today… Listen to this song. The band is called Dying Fetus and the song is Insidious Repression off of the album War of Attrition. It is loud. The whole cd is loud. Not even just your everyday screamo loud. Nice hardcore metal mixed with punk rock loud. It’s refreshing, really.

Other music I picked up today is a bit more … quiet. But a good mix of electronica. The newest CD we have on the shelf is Hi Fi Mike’s Swim: In the Deep. I just picked the first song because they’re all good, so it would have been a hard choice… the song is I’ll Carry You.

If you’ve never heard of Pacha Massive… you’re not alone. I hadn’t either, but I played them last week… on one of the shows I did and they’re actually pretty good. I think All Good Things is their only album, but its a good album…here is the song Don’t Let Go.

For something exactly opposite of the first song, you can listen to some Lisa Gerrard off her best of album. Sanvean is preformed live on this album, she’s sort of like Enya, only … not as annoying.

I’ve been addicted to playing Jill Cuniff on my shows lately, but only because her song Happy Warriors off of City Beach is so freaking good. …Seriously that song is AMAZING… I dance in the on air booth when I play it. And I hate dancing!

Alright, that’s it. Only 5, but I’m sick and I want to go listen to the UVSS debate so I actually know who the hell I’m voting for next week.

I’m supposed to be leaving right now to go on a “feild trip” to China Town downtown. The problem is, I have to be at work by 10:30, and the lab there ends at 10:30… and its a 30 minute bus ride back. So I guess I’ll be missing China Town seeing as radio = more important than geography lab.

On top of all that, I’ve developed this wicked new sickness… it makes my head all light, and my throat incredibly soar. So basically, I just feel like sleeping for the next 800 years. But have no fear, I will have new music up by noon…that’s all I’ll want to do at work anyway… listen to and steal music. Until then, though, you should go check out this racism post at Pandagon, good story and even better commentary on it.
