The “White Chicks and Gang Signs” song is absolutely hilarious. Turns out the rest of his site absolutely sucks. I hate it when that happens.

An abandoned mine kills on average 30 people a year.

Drowning is the number one cause of death. Most people who drowned entered a quarry and went swimming. Quarries are very unsafe places to swim. Steep drop-offs, rocky ledges, flooded equipment and industrial waste can be in the water and make swimming risky.

Some people are stupid… Like people who don’t listen to geologists when they say there is something fishy going on up around Mount Baker.

Small earthquakes that may indicate underground activity now occur once or twice a month beneath Baker, compared with as many as 10 times that number beneath Rainier and thousands beneath St. Helens.

Just living with 3 mountain climbers last year, I know that people don’t look into these sorts of things. I’m pretty sure they went and climbed Baker once or twice and I can promise you that they did check out instabilities or anything of that nature Two of them are even geographers, and they wouldn’t check that sort of stuff out, or even take it seriously. Douches.

The only thing I hate more than idiots, are sexists and racists.

mmm bubble jets

Tonight went from being a really shitty night to a really fantastic night. Why was it shitty? Well, I am going to Toronto tomorrow (from Guelph, where my parents live) and my step-brother is going to Toronto as well. Logistically, I would just get in his car and go with him because we’re going to the exact same area of town, for the exact same time of day. But he’s a dink and said he wouldn’t drive me. Why? Well, he didn’t say this, but this is why - he is completely resentful of the fact that I am living at home again. He calls me a free loader and makes fun of me for living in our parent’s basement again. (He forgets that all of his money comes from what his grandpa left him when he died.) So that pissed me off.

On top of that my taxes were due tonight and I couldn’t do them because I didn’t have all the information. I figured 1/2 done was better than not done at all, so I went to go log in to the tax site and ended up getting locked out because I didn’t have the right information. I’ve moved approximately 8 times in the past year so I have no freaking idea what postal code the government has for me - and you only get 5 tries. Sure enough, I didn’t pick the right one the first 5 tries, so I was locked out. That also pissed me off.

But then… oh, but then.

I downloaded the cool “snap” program that decreases your carbon on your computer and tracks how much you and all other snap users have saved! It’s neat to watch how much such little things can ad up to…

So far I’ve only saved 0.14 lbs (click it to see full size):

But hey, I’ve had it for 4 hours! So seriously now, that’s not so bad.

After I saved the earth a little bit I decided it was time for a bath. Not just a bath though, a bubble bath. Now, let me tell you something. I love bubbles. So, I put the bubble stuff into the tub, and then I turn on the bubble jets!! Yeah, bubble jets. My parents have this kickin’ new bathroom downstairs… and it is fully equip with a bubble jet spa like bath tub deelio. …So… bubbles + bubble jets = over flowing bath of bubbles. Seriously. I don’t mean it just filled, it was literally over flowing. Best. Bath. Ever.

To top it all off, tomorrow I am going to Toronto (on the bus   ) to go to the science centre! Yay! I love science centres. Oh, and for those of you who knew I had a job interview today, I definitely got the job - but I don’t want it. I also got an interview for a factory here in Guelph, but I don’t want that either. I applied for a full time program director position at CFUV back in Victoria, I definitely want that, more than anything. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

But some people think that’s not a worthy line to be spouting any longer.

…I’m home at my mom’s. I like spending my days lying on her couch reading and watching dinosaur shows on the Discover Channel. Therefore - I don’t sit at my computer. Hence the complete lack of posts and complete lack of interaction with people.  I like it this way for now. Don’t expect anything marvelous to come out of me for a couple more days. I like having my resting time.

We live in a world…

oooof assholes.

Im off to bed…I have to get up early early to go to Toronto to help Andy Pandy move from his mouse filled basement apartment to his new 12 story non-mice filled apartment. yay! but first… check this:

An explosive device was found in the parking lot of a woman’s center.

According to the Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Violence Survey, 18.4 percent of clinics across the country are targets of severe violence, including arsons, bombings, chemical attacks, gunfire, and invasion. The most recent incident comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a federal abortion procedure ban. “The extremists in the anti-abortion movement have been emboldened by the latest Supreme Court decision,” said Katherine Spillar, executive vice president of the Feminist Majority Foundation. “These domestic terrorists will continue to attack women’s health clinics across the country until their financial and support networks are closed down.”

Yeah you know what the exact rational response is to an act that you don’t like because it kills an unborn child? Killing people! WOO! Seriously though, this sort of thing makes me want to throw up it makes me so ill. It’s just so sad. I think tomorrow I’ll go to an abortion clinic and hug everyone that is there..

The largest land arthropod of all time! Woo!

Name/pronounce: arthroleura (ah-throw-ploo-ra) meaning side joint
lived: 340 - 280 mya
size: 0.3 - 2.6 meters long
diet: we’ll get to that
found: N.A, Middle East and Europe
fossil:f-millipede-p.jpg

Arthropleura was made out of up to 30 individual plates, underneath each was a pair of legs. It would have looked similar to todays centipedes, only giant. It’s size is credited to the high levels of oxygen in the atmosphere at the time and a low number of terrestrial vertebrate predators.

Scientists are unsure of what the animal would have eaten as not a single mouth has been found that has been preserved. It is thought that it would have a set of powerful jaws which would suggest that it ate meat, however recent finding of pollen in its gut suggest otherwise…if this is the case, it would have eaten up to a tonne of plant life per year.

When I was looking for a picture of a fossil I found that there are by far more fossils of the animals footprints than of their actual bodies. When moving, it would stretch it’s body out to a greater length giving it greater strides and allowing itself to move faster. It is also thought that it probably was in water sometimes too to do things such as molt its shell.

The group to which arthropleura belongs to dates all the way back to 420 mya and could very well have been the first arthropods to live on land more than in the water. Around 280 swamp areas were becoming more scarce and thus there was a decline and eventual extinction of the arthroleura.

It’s possible relative, myriapods, are what we have now, however their exact relationship isn’t known.
