Where do you shit?

By Katie Kish, February 5, 2007 12:55 am

But My Underwear Is Solid Gold

White guy with dreads: Think about this — taking a shit is the one thing in which all people of all races, sexes and religions are truly equal.
Hippie girl: Not exactly. Some people shit on solid gold toilet bowls while others shit in a bucket.
Little boy at next table, standing on booth seat: I shit in my pants! Hahaha!

I’m actually watching documentaries on dinosaurs right now, but I got distracted by livejournal and it somehow brought me back to that overheard in new york site and I read that one and I just had to share.

And after that I got distracted by Cute Overload which I had never really looked at before – but holy crap, the title of the blog ain’t kiddin’! There are so many cute kitties! And did you know there is a blog called "Daily Kitten"?! I’m going to go insane. And Gordo sent me to Kitten Wars the other day and I ended up wasting a good portion of my day picking which kittens were cuter than the other. Seriously.

This cat thing is getting out of control.

Monday Love: Science/History edition

By Katie Kish, December 4, 2006 1:10 am

Mondaylove

Science and history = happy katie. If I would have gotten ontop of things in highschool I’d probably be in biology or geology right now. But I’m not willing to go back and do grades 11 and 12 bio/phys/chem just to do it.

Anyway, I’m doing this quick time because I still need to study a lot, and its 1 am … aka 7 hours until I need to leave for my exam. Shit shit shit.

First we’ll start with a couple "world’s oldest" things… The world’s oldest ritual and the world’s oldest computer. Stupid Romans and their Greek hating asses, we could have had some hyper stellar technology going on today.

This experiment with a Ruben’s Tube is really simple, but its also entertaining to watch fire. (Speaking of cool experiments… I made 8 mobius strips today while not studying. You look at it and you’re like, this is so simple! But check out the geometry behind it! Coool.)

I always knew that a praying mantis was one to watch out for… if you were another praying mantis, but I wasn’t aware that birds are at risk too. Some more enviromentalish things, I think I’ve posted about them before, but green cemeteries are cool and I’d like to be buried there if my body can’t be used for science. Here is an article worth reading about climate change and another on ecology and economics, I find that one incredibly interesting… the merging/clashing/conflict of the environment and economics has always captured me.

And now a few links that have nothing to do with science or history – I really like Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, you should go to that site and listen to his music. Its fantastic. I hope I get to meet him one day, people with such amazing musical talent have so much of my respect and groupie love. …Maybe next time I’m in New York I’ll be able to hear it live *hopes*. Speaking of New York, see some street pictures, and some beneath the street pictures. The underground ones are really great… but they all make me miss New York, a lot.

And that’s going to have to be it from me… Unless I can find the video I want to put in less than 3 minutes… ready… set… go…
Woot, I found it… you’ll have to trust that it took me less than three minutes. A pool filled with non-newtonian fluid…cooool

Whoopsie

By Katie Kish, November 22, 2006 1:02 pm

I just realized, not only have I just skipped a class, but I need to be at work in 25 minutes. It takes 20 minutes to get there, and I’m still in my pjs – aka naked. So the rest of my posts will have to be in short form and all crammed together into one neat little package commonly refered to as a "Round-up post" but I hate this title and will therefore call it "Batman and Robin arn’t gay! Shut up!"

Erika has informed me today that its alright to listen to the Spice Girls now. Phewph. I was about to go crazy from the lack of Spice in my life. …Wow, double meaning. Not only do I not have the spice girls – but I’m also bored stiff of where I life. Actually, that’s not completely true. I’m not bored stiff of BC. I actually really like it here. Its gorgeous, and my friends are fantastic. Not to mention all the boys here are 40xs more attractive than boys anywhere else I’ve been. But that’s a moot point. …However, BC isn’t New York. And New York is where my thyme is.

The Friendly Atheist explains a conversation he had with a friend about being an atheist, and her not being an atheist. Honestly, I think he was easy on her. …When people start talking to me about religion I take it as an opportunity to run my mouth and explain to them why believing in one God, but not like… Vishnu is just silly and if they’re going to be Christian they might as well be Wiccan too and try to work their magic Jesus powers on me. Alright, I don’t usually get to that point – but …whatever. However, this does raise a point I wanted to bring up at some point….

And that is that Richard Dawkins can be a Fukking tool sometimes. I used to love him to death because of his extreme views. However, these extreme views leave no room for respect for people who do choose to be religious. …In an article I read in Wired he expresses very clearly that there should be no religious tolerance. That religion needs to be stripped from the earth entirely. …While I do think the world would be better off without religion, I can’t see the logic of not respecting someone because they do believe in a particular religion…

There are a couple posts on Feministing that I wanted to get to. The first is a picture that I’m absolutely in love with. Lovely. Really.
The second is a sickening story. Jessica already said it, but the first thought that came to my mind "why are we removing the victim, as opposed to the rapists?" If there is a fear these boys are going to sexually assault a girl there is some seriouse problems. The solution isn’t to remove the girl from their sexually victimizing hands, but to teach these boys that sexual assault is not an option, and to teach them and imbed into their heads the appropriate behaviour to be eluding. If the teachers simply remove the girl, then what happens when there is a situation where the girl can’t be removed by an authority figure?  It seems as though the most backward approach ever was taken in the situation.

Ecogeek points us toward a company in Colorado that is setting up solar panels for free. I think it’s a swell idea. …You’re still paying for electricity, but not the electricity that is running our earth dry of some resources.

At CUSS I read some of the most disturbing things ever. Seriously. I’m not even saying that lightly. The MOST disturbing things I have ever read.

A repulsive term that is literally not funny at all is "soft jacob".  This was the first term that came up in my anonymous searcher’s quest for soft-serve vagina.
Rebecca, Elle, and I spent a good 30 minutes laughing hysterically out of shock and horror at definitions of the word "donkey punch".  Derivations of the term "donky punch" provided extra fits of laughter, as did the hideous definitions of "pink sock".

Fucking sick, yo. (And not the good thug sick either.)

And last, I wasn’t going to link to it at all, but since I’m doing a link post I might as well… It’s pretty sad that Alon is having to deal wtih someone right now that thinks that giving women opportunites is actually being discriminatory to men. I’ve replied a couple times to him, but I’m fucking done because he’s a tool. Not only is he a tool, he is an arrogant tool. I don’t mind arrogant people, as long as they have reason to be arrogant, and this guy has no reason to be arrogant.

Screw Monday Love

By Katie Kish, November 21, 2006 9:51 am

There isn’t much worth loving, so lets do some "the world is fucked up"… shall we?

Via Feministing I learned that Nicaragua has eliminated all exceptions for abortions.

Some opponents to the law had hoped Mr. Bolaños, a conservative, would
not sign the bill because it did not include the stiffer sentences he
had wanted for women who had had illegal abortions, or for those who
had performed abortions. The six-year prison term remains unchanged
under the law. The president had asked for a 30-year prison term.

Ruin your own life with a child, or they’ll attempt to ruin your life for you. If I were a woman in Nicaragua I’d be raising a shit storm.

Canada’s PM, Mr. Harper, met the Chinese President, and was said to be a ‘laughing stock‘.

“[Mr. Harper's] dangerously driven by preconceptions, deceptions, self-delusions and arrogance,” Mr. Graham said Monday.

*Shrugs* … this doesn’t suprise me. My country is being run by a fucking moron. Not *as* bad as America’s fucking moron, but I wouldn’t trust Harper with a war either.

Universal is sueing MySpace because of illegal downloading.

Universal Music Group (UMG) on Friday filed a
lawsuit against MySpace.com, alleging that the Web site is building a
business based on publishing stolen songs and music videos.

The suit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, called MySpace a "vast virtual warehouse" of pirated copyrighted material that belongs
to blockbuster artists such as Mariah Carey and U2. UMG also claimed in
the filing that "no intellectual property is safe" from the alleged
copyright infringement.

Okay, I’m sorry, but why wouldn’t universal just bunk up with them? MySpace is huge, why not get in on that sexy action? And I think say the site is ‘based’ on stolen songs and music is a big over the top – not only is it a networking site, not a music site, it also happens to give a spot light to bands that aren’t ‘bitchen’ and ‘hoe’ filled enough to make it in the main stream.

Kristin Wilson of Edmonton, AB is sueing the Edmonton police force for $6 million dollars.

Edmonton’s police chief has ordered a misconduct hearing under the
provincial Police Act to probe an altercation involving an officer who
was photographed last June hitting a 20-year-old woman who was
handcuffed during a raucous street party.

Good. Sue ‘em up and fuckin’ win.

A study says that doctors may be contributing to Canadian addicts.

The research found that heroin, once the drug of choice for most
addicts, has been largely replaced by prescription narcotics, including
Dilaudid and OxyContin, in most cities in the study. Exceptions are
Montreal and Vancouver, which are major heroin import points.

Last year when I went to the doctor to talk about my inability to sleep and my depression he automatically put me on 3 different medications… Lithium, Seroquel and… shit, I forget what its called Effexor maybe, but I think thats what the second doctor decided to put me on… Anyway, logically you would deal with the depression or the sleep as a root cause of the other, but no. He was quick to get me out of his office by slapping down a few prescriptions and telling me to make an appointment for 3 weeks later. The second doctor I went to, did the same thing.

Despite with Andy Pandy says, NYC police claim NYC is a safe place. …At least murder wise.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly was quoted as saying that the 7
percent rise in murder rate was caused in part by a large jump in
re-classified homicides, or people who were attacked years ago, but
died recently from those wounds.

Kelly said when those deaths were excluded, the murder rate is
only up 3 percent. So far this year there have been 499 homicides
compared to 467 through the same period last year. Despite the rise in
the murder rate, the city is on pace to have the second- lowest number
of murders per year since the early 1960′s.

…That’s a lot of homicides.

Some white supremacist gang members are being sentenced to prison for murder and racketeering.

Barry "The Baron" Mills, 58, and Tyler "The Hulk" Bingham, 59, were
eligible for the death penalty but a jury deadlocked, meaning they
likely will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of
parole.

Edgar "The Snail" Hevle, 55, faces 20 years to life in prison for
racketeering, conspiracy and murder. The fourth defendant, Christopher
Overton Gibson, 47, faces 20 years to life in prison for racketeering
and conspiracy, but he is recuperating from back surgery and will not
be sentenced Tuesday.

Hevle and Gibson were convicted of conspiring to murder the black inmates.

Mills, Bingham and Hevle also were convicted of a count of murder
for the killing of Arva Lee Ray, a prisoner at the Lompoc, California,
penitentiary in 1989.

Where is the fun in white supremacy? seriously. Same with raping little girls.

An Anniston man has been arrested and
charged with second-degree rape and two counts of enticing a child for
allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old student he picked up at
Wellborn High School.

The
suspect, 22-year-old Antonio Gray, faces a court hearing January 11th.
Gray was arrested Friday when Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies
followed up on a tip from a school employee who wrote down the tag
number of the suspect’s vehicle as he left the school with the girl.

In Vancouver riots broke out over discussions of funding for a women’s shelter.

Vancouver police have arrested three people after a violent clash broke out during a protest over funding for a women’s shelter.

About 50 demonstrators gathered Monday night at the city’s main public library, where a council budget meeting was being held.

Alright Vancouver people, seriously… fuck off. At least your abortions aren’t being banned. This is what I complain about the most. How is anyone supposed to make any sort of progress by fighting with everyone else?

And I’m home

By Katie Kish, November 21, 2006 12:28 am

Twas a long and tiring 11 days, but I am home – safe and sound. My room is cold and dirty, but one of these I can fix quite easily – the other will have to wait.

I have uploaded lots of pictures from my trip, including some almost decent pictures of Alon and I. One day we’ll get a really good one, I promise. But these ones are monumentally better than the ones we took last December. I miss him already, and even though he gets unlimited blogging time (minus sleep and homework time) I know he misses me too.

On the plane home I outlined about 8 good posts. 3 of which will appear on this blog, and the other 5 on Eco-Chick and Feminists Inc. Both of which I plan on contributing to much more frequently. However, none of these posts are going to get done tonight. I can barely hold my head up I’m so tired. I got little sleep last night, even after Alon fell asleep I sort of just sat in bed thinking about music, journalism and the Victoria Transit system. Then we got up early so that he could go to class, and I could go to the air port… It was a sad moment.

Anyway, it’s sort of good to be home, only because it gives me back a degree of regularity. Im not looking forward to heading back into work, though. I have no show for Wednesday… :S As well as no clean underwear. I’m not really sure which of these problems is worse. (Actually I think I might have like 2 pairs of clean underwear… … I think.) Im also glad to be around my roommates again. You realize how much you actually like people when you’re away from them… I was actually really excited and happy to see Dan, not even because that meant I didn’t have to take a bus home, but because I missed him… And I keep listening for Ashley to come home. I heart my roomies. And I miss my old roomies… lots. (Big hugs to Lenster and Samie.)

Only like 20 something odd days until I am back in the air flying across the continent again. And only 30 some odd days until Alon is flying to this side of the continent.
Just as a heads up – tomorrow I hope to do a late version of Monday Love, a post about taxi drivers, shell the oil company, women working over motherhood, my thoughts of Dawkins atheism, Borat, art museums, personal bubbles, NBC In-flight and um… Sex and the City probably.

I always forget how much I like taxi drivers. The first one I was riding with today said to me "Wow, we should all be so lucky as to have someone that would fly across the world to see you." …Which sort of leads me to another question of … why are long distance relationships popping up everywhere these days? …More about my thoughts on this tomorrow. For now – bed time. I have class at 9:30, and I have a midterm. …BWA … That should be interesting.
