Playoff Season

I think my favorite thing about this playoff season is that Toronto didn’t make it. *giggles* … One side of me likes it because I hate the leafs, but also… I don’t have to see all my friends get their hopes up and then have them crash down when Toronto gets kicked out 2nd or 3rd round. Now they know… it’s just not going to happen. And probably never will again. I think this is the 52nd year since Toronto has won a cup. *sorry, i was wrong, it’s only been 41 years, but they have won it the 3rd most times in the league. Colorado won it twice… that’s 16% of their years in the league where as Toronto, even with 21 wins sits at  23%, and for a lot of those years there were only like 5 other teams to go up against… my point here is… Toronto sucks.* The last time the Avs won it? 2001. Delicious.

Anyway – I’ve been following hockey in the time that I have, but haven’t actually watched any games this season (I know…) And I’m still amused by the “shitty” teams now being in the top 10 simply because of the cap. That cap changed so much. But Detroit and Montreal are still the top 2 (as it sits now) …. I’m not so sure anything can really bring them down. Dallas and Colorado aren’t as high as I’d like them to be, but I still heart them.

Last night I sat in on a really good discussion with my parental units and a few of their friends. I meant to come down and start writing about it but I drank a lot of wine and watched Sex and the City instead. I will write about it after I get home from work tonight. It’s good. I promise.

WOO! GO AVS! Forsy was a star last night :)

Le Hockey Update

Well. There’s Hasek. On his back.

The finale will be Ottawa vs Anaheim. The last game between Anaheim and The Wings was pretty depressing. I actually wanted Detroit to win – but it is always funny to see a rival team lose.

So now it’s Go Ottawa Go!…

But in my mother’s words “Who even wants to watch that?”

Honestly.

I’ll watch all the games anyway. Because I’m a good little Canadian like that. I decided that I would start watching Soccer as well – but rumor has it that “my team”… just lost some big game that pretty much ended it all.

So NEXT year I’ll like soccer. …What do people do over the summer? …Is this “Euro 2008″ thing a big soccer deal? If it is WOO! Euro 2008! I just like cheering for things. But I have a feeling that the teams I’d want to cheer for in soccer would pretty much suck – such as Sweden. England must not be that bad? We’ll see. I’ll get into this soccer thing.

But first… GO SENS!

Playoff Update

The semifinals have come to an end, and the finals are coming up! The semis ended with the following series outcomes:

Buffalo Sabers – 4 New York Rangers – 2

Ottawa Senators – 4 New Jersey Devils – 1

Detroit Red Wings – 4 San Jose Sharks – 2

Anaheim Ducks – 4 Vancouver Canucks – 1

The only outcome I didn’t really like was Vancouver being booted. Ottawa and Vancouver for the cup would have been a great game to watch. So now we have Buffalo against Ottawa and Wings against the Ducks. My picks are most definitely the Wings and Ottawa. That would be an amazing playoff series!! Then no matter who won, I’d be pretty happy. I don’t hate Detroit and “the boy” will be happy if Detroit wins, and if they don’t he’ll go bonkers and attempt to kill his cat. Not a good scene.

Anyway – Ottawa and Buffalo are up Thursday and Wings and Ducks are up Friday.

Maggie’s Picks

By Samantha Drover, April 11, 2007 5:17 pm

TSN has a monkey, Maggie, come in every playoff season and “pick” the teams she thinks will win the series. She basically just spins a wheel and voila!

So, here are her picks for this round:

Pittsburg
Buffalo
New Jersey
Atlanta

Vancouver
Detroit
Minnesota
Nashville

I swear I have more interests than just hockey.. Im just completely occupied with studying for the time being.. I have an exam tomorrow, and then a 13 day break – therefore some samie posts will be coming.

Playoffs ’07

I’m Canadian, did you expect me to skip out on a tiny bit of playoff coverage? Don’t worry, I won’t be overrunning the front page with hockey updates…

Instead you’ll see a new page has been added, you’ll be able to find the scores and what have yous of each game on that page. If you don’t know how the playoffs work… first of all – d’oh, second of all… here’s what you need to know

  • 16 teams make the playoffs
  • There are the quarterfinals, semifinals and conference finals…
  • The 2 teams that win in their conference then go to the Stanley Cup Playoff round
  • Each section is the best out of 7
  • The games start on the 11th

That’s pretty much it… If you’re interested in more specific stats on the teams that are playing each other… I can give you that.

As for what I think will happen?

Buffalo, Jersey, Atlanta, Ottawa and Calgary, Minnesota, Dallas, Nashville

Well, that’s what I want to happen in this round. In the end I’d want to see Ottawa duke it out against Dallas so that I’d be happy with the outcome either way…

Really… I’ll only be disappointed if one of those teams I listed above… don’t win it all. I’ll be happy if any of those teams win… But for now I’m cheering for Dallas. And oddly enough, if Dallas loses to Vancouver, I’ll switch to cheering for Vancouver until they’re out. Hrm. Sorry, I get a little lost when my team doesn’t actually make the playoffs. (The good news is…Sakic was signed for another year! so many if they get … you know.. better players, next season won’t be such a downer)

TSN’s Power rankings for teams are:

Buffalo Sabers
Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Ottawa Senators

Players:

Marty Brodeur (New Jersey Devils)
Dany Heatley (Ottawa Senators)
Daniel Alfredsson (Ottawa Senators)
