It’s really, being posted everywhere, but I’ll first link to the Angry Black Bitch’s post announcing that the FDA has finally approved Plan B, aka the morning after pill!
If a woman takes Plan B within 72 hours of unprotected sex, she can
lower the risk of pregnancy by up to 89 percent. Plan B is different
from the abortion pill: If a woman already is pregnant, Plan B has no
effect.
…well, for girls 18+. Now girls 18+ without a prescription can go and take Plan B… I think it’s great, but would be even more beneficial if even younger girls could take it, since they’re even *less* ready to be a mother than girls 18+. So instead of having Plan B available for all girls, America has decided to keep the abortion rate nice and high…
But for some reason, when it comes to preventing abortions, so-called
“pro-lifers” have rallied around and demanded that BushCo do everything
in their power to keep the abortion rate as high as possible by
withholding emergency contraception from women who are eager to prevent
abortions.
But while Plan B was up in the air other factors in teh birth control department were neglected and there was a sneaky price hike.
No one much noticed, but thousands of family-planning clinics across
the country went into a tailspin last month. They were reacting to a
drastic price increase by Ortho-McNeil, a major supplier of
birth-control pills and maker of the popular contraceptive patch. The
company used to charge publicly funded clinics as little as a penny a
pack for the pills. Then, as of July 1, the price of some pills jumped
to more than $18 a pack.
One really great thing about living in Canada, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, is the health care. I don’t spend a dime on my birth control. It would cost me $10/month, but instead I pay zip. And I started to get it when I was 16, and my mom didn’t even know about it. Canada rocks.
