Boys are suffering from feminising schools…
by Katie Kish on Feb.04, 2007, under Sexism
Seriously you’ve got to read this crap.
Well, I’m sorry, but in the real world life is full of winners and
losers. And right now, the losers are a generation of boys who have
been betrayed by an education system that no longer recognises crucial
differences between the sexes.
This reminds me of little miss sunshine, and how much of an asshole the dad is because he keeps telling his daughter that she can’t be a loser and can’t be fat and blah blah blah.
For the story of
my son’s swimming competition is also the story behind recent figures
showing that boys going to university are now outnumbered by girls in
every subject, with 23,000 more places awarded to women than to men.
You know, women have had the privilege of going to school long enough! … But in all seriousness I just don’t think that’s true for sciences, engineering, math… etc. I’m pretty sure those are still dominated by men - at least in Canada they are.
Anyway, Im not going to sit here and go through each paragraph. The point of the article is that males are competative and the current education system doesn’t adhere to this cometative nature in them. It instead bends over backwards to accomodate girls who like "think critically" rather than shove around tough tasks and problem solving.
There is so much wrong here.
Why do people also just say "boys are naturally competative" … Girls are too. A lot of girls are. Do I really need to break into another rant on masculinities and how pushing all these stereotypes on to boys is wrong? And why can’t a kid suck it up and understand that when you’re in an elementary school or even highschool situation sometimes things need to be done in an inclusive way.
THe fact of the matter is the entire education system is being done horribly. I posted on it a while back, so I’m not going to get into it again now. The problem isn’t that schools are not showing any difference between the sexes - a big part of the problem is that schools are focusing on individuals.
The article is a sexist peice of crap. "boys need more ways to express all their anger and be more agressive wtih one another while girls sit around braiding one anothers hair!" …All boys aren’t like this… people should know better than that now.
