It amazes me how much higher the “hateful troll-to-legitimate commenter” ratios seems to be on blogs run by women.

I get my share of people who object to what I’m saying, but they don’t include nearly as much venom. That’s especially puzzling, given the fact that I often alter photos of wingnut heros to make them appear even more ridiculous than they already are.

What is it about being a woman that inspires so much hatred?

Oh Gordo, if I knew I’d be devoting my life to changing it. It literally upsets me that people are so… gah.
If you really want, I can start sending you hateful e-mails about the pictures your photoshop.

I am so sorry that you are being harassed here. It’s your space, and people should respect that. On the other hand, they are obviously threatened by the logic and thoughtfulness of your arguments. As you know, people will fight tooth and nail to preserve privilege and the status quo. Sigh.

Are they? Not counting one-timers like the burqas-are-empowering crowd and one or two conservative trolls who posted on one thread, Majikthise has had exactly one hateful troll in the last six months - DavidByron. Echidne’s been troll-free since I started reading it; I don’t count people who are right-wing but not really that hateful (think Phantom on Majikthise) as trolls, or else the blog with the largest troll-to-non-troll ratio would be Ezra Klein’s. Feministing’s most recent troll problem has been with a racist, not a sexist.

…how the heck do you know what sort of e-mail they get.
I bet that feministing has seen more hate mail in the past month than any male blog its size. Its almost irritating that you always look to the same 4 or 5 blogs for every single statistic you want to make up… sort of like your “well wikipedia says it, so it must be true” thing that irritated me for a while…
Most of the trolling that gets done on my blog are e-mails because they’re too chicken to actually do it in the comment threads.
I wouldn’t doubt that if we were to look at it seriously and to go around asking blogs, smaller AND larger (because its not only the 8 blogs on the net that exist) women would get more hatemail…
How much hatemail have you gotten since your blog started alon??

suzanne, thanks for the kind words. i find that most of the hate mail i get is filled with more grammar and spelling mistakes than almost anything I read in a day.

replace hatemail with comments in all cases.
except most of my trolls ARE on e-mail. You mentioned “troll problems” so I spoke about MY troll problems.
how many downright personal attack comments have you gotten since you started your blog? not nearly 1/2 of what i’ve gotten, because you dont delete your comments, so i know. …You have a larger blog than I do, and you’re a bigger prick than I am too. Even on opposite-liberals i got trolls personally attacking… and it was a teeny tiny blog.
